Foundation 1 Day Manual Handling Course & ½ Day
Refresher Training
Manual Handling injuries account to 36% of all reported workplace accidents. The Health & Social Care sector accounts for 54% of all reported manual handling accidents.
Introduction
To provide a consistent approach to Manual Handling that ensures best practice in accordance with the All Wales Local Government Manual Handling Training Passport & Information Scheme.
Duration
The course is delivered over two days. We have no problems fitting in with existing work shift patterns and are happy to teach the course early morning, late evening or overnight if required!
Module A Spinal Awareness, legislation, your authority or company policies
ergonomics, risk assessment, safe handling principles, team handling
communication.
Module B Inanimate load handling, practical ergonomics
Assessment
Candidates are assessed by an objective test of multiple-choice questions and trainer observation of skills demonstrated competently throughout the course.

Course Aim
The aim of this course is to provide students with best practice training in Manual & People Handling, together with consistent support to meet the standards set by the All Wales Manual Handling Passport.
Objectives
By the end of this course, students will be able to:
Describe the function of the spine
Examine & Discuss Manual Handling Legislation
Discuss Company Manual Handling policys
Describe Ergonomics
Examine and Discuss Manual Handling Risk Assessment
Discuss safe handling procedures
Explain the need for effective teamwork & communication
Demonstrate safe inanimate load handling
Demonstrate appropriate skills in assisting a client to Sit, Stand & Walk
Demonstrate appropriate skills in assisting a client move in a bed
Demonstrate appropriate skills in the safe operation of a hoist
